On Friday, November 29th 2024, our school took part in the annual Time Project event for the second time. Among the various activities offered, the Unite the Nation quiz and videoconferences with partner schools from around the globe were especially popular with our students.

For many reasons, this exciting event, organized by Ms. Marijana Smolcec, and supported by Ms. Marcela Gomolova, Ms. Mateja Strovs, and Mr. Brendan Costello, brought together students from various S5, S6 and S7 classes.

This year, our students had the unique opportunity to participate in multiple videoconferences with partner schools from around the world. They engaged in meaningful debates and discussions on topics such as Artificial Intelligence in Education and E-Waste. A total of 18 students from S5 to S7 proudly represented our school in the UN quiz, as well as 12 videoconferences involving 10 schools across six countries: Croatia, Canada, India, Poland, Taiwan, and the Netherlands.

The video conferences were hosted in the VC room at the Château from 8:00 to 16:00. These sessions highlighted our students’ exceptional preparation and skills, showcasing them as outstanding ambassadors for our European School and Belgium.

The preparation for the Time Project spanned nearly two months. Our students worked diligently on debates and presentations covering Artificial Intelligence and E-Waste, as well as developing creative quiz questions about Belgium for the Unite the Nation quiz.

In the Unite the Nation quiz, we proudly maintained our 7th-place ranking from last year, competing against 24 schools from 12 different countries. The competition was incredibly close, with only a few points separating the top seven places. The quiz proved to be highly challenging, especially when researching information about countries like Malaysia and Taiwan. A huge thanks goes to Ms. Strovs and Mr. Costello’s S7 classes who also gave a helping hand in looking for some of the countries’ quiz questions.

The creativity and knowledge demonstrated by our students during the quiz and debates received high praise from partner schools. Their ability to engage in thoughtful discussions and represent our school’s values was commendable.

This event would not have been possible without the support of our school management and the school’s ICT team.

Beyond the academic and collaborative achievements, the students’ teamwork and spirit stood out as highlights of the day. The fun and bonding experienced during the project were invaluable aspects of their learning journey.

Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the Time Project, and it’s amazing to see that many students have already expressed their eagerness to participate again. This enthusiasm reflects the positive experiences and meaningful learning gained from this year’s event.

More information and a video of Time Projects highlights will be posted in the upcoming weeks.
