Message from the Director
Dear visitor, welcome to the European School Brussels 1 (EEB1) website.
More than 60 years ago, in September 1958, the EEB1 opened its doors on rue du Trône, with just 26 pupils and 6 teachers. It was the year after the signing in Luxembourg of the Convention defining the Statute of the European Schools, whose mission was, and still is, to provide a multilingual and multicultural education. Today, divided between two sites, Uccle and Berkendael, we are delighted to welcome more than 4,000 pupils of 60 different nationalities and more than 500 members of staff from the various EU Member States and beyond. Our large school community is spread across the 12 language sections (including 1 Greek-language satellite class) that make up our School. I invite you to discover them by browsing our website.
Among the guiding principles of the European Schools, we pay particular attention to inclusion. Inclusion benefits a diverse and mobile school population, and offers a variety of teaching approaches adapted to children with different learning profiles.
We encourage our teachers from different countries to share their practices and fully embrace the multiculturalism that is part of our DNA.
We are also committed to educating our pupils to become European citizens with a sharp critical sense. Our aim is to ensure that everyone’s personal development matches their aspirations and potential. In this way, we encourage autonomy and responsibility throughout the school career, so that our future citizens, who will also be tomorrow’s decision-makers, can make informed decisions that respect the values we have passed on to them.
I hope you enjoy your visit to our site and I look forward to welcoming you to either Uccle or Berkendael.
